Wellbeing Team.
Children across school applied to become Wellbeing Champions to help create a mentally healthy school. They aim to promote positive mental health by providing peer-to-peer support, being good role models and listeners and building awareness of where to go for support.
When asked what makes a good champion the pupils said, “Kindness, empathy, patience and trust.” Many children have experienced a range of emotions and feelings and felt that they had the skills to support other children in developing positive thinking and strategies to overcome negative emotions.
The Wellbeing Team meet every other Thursday with Mrs Thompson and Mrs Craven. So far this year, they have helped to arrange and supported at our first Enterprise event at Christmas. The money raised for this is going to be used towards a first aid day to support the teaching of the Personal Development curriculum.
The children are currently part of a project by Omega called 'Pupil Pals', where they are writing letters to elderly people in care homes or those that live alone to bring a smile to their day!

What is the Impact of the Wellbeing Team?
Since September, the children have shared their views on the current Personal Development curriculum. This led to a review of how First Aid is taught within the curriculum and they agreed it should be more practical where they can practice the skills they are being taught. This led to the Enterprise Fayre at Christmas to raise money for a qualified first aider to come and teach the children practical life saving skills!
The children have also shared their own experiences about the internet, what they watch and games they play online. This has informed our computing lead (Mr Watkins) of the actions he needs to take to further educate parents (and pupils!) about how to stay safe when playing games online.
What Actions will the Wellbeing Team take this year?
- Review of the Personal Development curriculum
- Engage and support the local community through the 'Pupil Pal's' initiative led by Omega
- Termly wellbeing assemblies
- Pupil voice about online gaming/safety
- Review of regulation stations and how they are used to regulate theirs and other children's behaviour.
