The children have made a really good start to their last year at Woodlands!
We have now begun our work on ‘Fight for Freedom, where we are discovering all things American. As part of this topic, we have been learning about America – which has so far included lots of geography work. We have learnt about the divisions of the earth, latitude and longitude, compass directions, American states, identified physical geography and Human geography in the continent of North America and compared Death Valley, in the USA, to the Lake District, in the UK (explicitly considering similarities and differences in human and physical geography). We have just finished writing a non-chronological report in Literacy (where we included a number of grammatical features) about The Pilgrims fight for Freedom in 1620.
In Numeracy, we began by improving our knowledge of place value up to 10,000,000 (ten million). We have: written numbers in numerals and words; ordered & compared numbers and considered the value of digits. After this, we recapped our knowledge of the four operations with a wide range of problems where we had to explain our reasoning. For those that were ready, they learnt a new method – long division.
As well as this, we have been improving our rugby skills in Games, improving our swimming in PE and finding out about living things & their habitats in Science.
We look forward to keeping you updated with photos and our news!
