World Book Day

We have had a great day in class today celebrating World Book Day!

The children all looked great in their costumes and we loved hearing all about their favourite book characters.

We hope you look forward to spending your World Book Day £1 vouchers!

Reading at Home

Your child will bring home their reading book and reading record each day. As part of their homework children will need to complete at least one read at home that should be recorded in their reading diary.

When writing in the reading diary could you ask your child one of the AF questions (that have been stuck in the front of the diary) and record their answer. For example

AF3 – Dan was able to tell me that Jack was feeling upset because it said in the book he was crying.

AF4 – Dan was able to tell me the subtitles tell you what the next section of information is about.

Each week children will be given an online task to complete on

This task will be either based on what we have be learning in class each week or may be a revision task based on work we have covered previously or times tables. This will be set on a Monday and expected to be completed by Friday of that week.

Spring Term in Year 3

Welcome back to an exciting spring term at Woodlands!

We have  an exciting new topic this term called ‘The Arts’. This will cover aspects of historic and modern art through time. Children will have the opportunity to discover different artists as well as exploring different styles of art by creating their own masterpiece. We will be setting a homework project (look out for this in the homework section!) in which children can recreate a famous artists work using a medium of their choice. We look forward to sharing these later on in the term.

In science this half term we will be looking at Rocks and Soils and discovering different types of rocks and investigating their properties.

Anti-Bullying Week

We are working hard on anti bullying this week in year 3. This year anti bullying week has the theme of ‘Power For Good’. In year 3 we have been learning about what bullying is and what we should do if we know anyone that is being bullied. We talked about different poems and then wrote our own version. We are looking forward to sharing some of these in our year group assembly. abw_2016_logo_hashtag_rgb_black

Eurovision Project

Just a reminder that the half term homework projects, based on Eurovision, are due in on Tuesday 1st November.

Guidance about this can be found in the children’s contact books.

We are really excited to see your creations!

Outdoor Learning – Stonehenge

During our outdoor learning lesson, we recreated the famous landmark Stonehenge using natural materials from our outdoor learning area.

First we designed our creations using photographs and diagrams of Stonehenge and then considered the materials we would be able to use. After, we went outside and gathered these materials before finally constructing our own Stonehenge.
