Topic Spring Term 2019

This term Year 3 children will be looking at the Stone Age. We have already discovered where they lived, how they ate as well as what they wore!

Children have a project homework set which is due on the 11th February to make a Stone Age house from materials they already have at home! We can’t wait to see them and put them on our display!

The Stone Age

This term our topic is ‘The Stone Age’. So far, the children are really enjoying it. If there is any opportunity for them to use a computer/visit a library please encourage them to find out any new facts about ‘The Stone Age’. It can be about food, housing, clothing etc.

Welcome back!

Welcome back, hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas and New Year!

PE will still take place on a Tuesday morning and a Wednesday afternoon. Children will need appropriate footwear as we will be on the field for PE on a Wednesday afternoon.

Many thanks.

Year 3 have done some AMAZING art work this afternoon!

They have been given the work RESPECT and each letter was created using a different media form (pastels, paint, tissue paper etc) in a different way.

This showed that everyone is unique and regardless of anyones differences we should treat everybody with the same respect!

Year 3 Diwali Day

Year 3 have been learning about Diwali and finding out about the Diwali festival and some of their traditions.

Today we made Diwali sweets and tasted naan bread and samosas.

We also made Diva lamps, created Rangoli patterns, Mehndi patterns and acrostic poems.

Times table practise

Year 3 are having a heavy focus on number facts and multiplication

Children should already know their 2x, 5x and 10x tables and should be working on their 3x, 4x and 8x tables. Please support them at home with this.

To help their fluency in Mathematics we are also practising recall of basic number facts such as 3 + 7 = 10 and 7 + 3 = 10 so we must know that 13 + 7 = 20 and 17 + 3 = 20 and therefore 30 + 70 = 100 and 70 + 30 = 100 also 700 + 300 = 100 and 300 + 700 = 100.

From knowing 3 + 7 = 10 they can adapt this and use this to solve more complicated equations. Asking them to recall these number facts on the way to/from school, in the car or when out for a walk will help them learn them. Thank you.

Fire Safety visit

Thursday 4th October

This morning we had three firefighters from Shropshire Fire and Rescue service come into Year 3 to speak to us about fire safety. We learnt about the importance of keeping the home free from fire hazards and the importance of having a working smoke alarm as well as an escape plan
