Reception News Autumn 2, Week 3

What a great week in Reception! The children have been busy learning all of the songs and practicing for the upcoming nativity performance. During our Mathematics sessions, we have been practising identifying the properties of circle and triangle shapes. Children have noticed similarities and differences between different types of triangle shapes.

Reception News Autumn 2, Week 2

It has been a very busy week in reception class!

This week, children have been learning all about Diwali during reception project. Learners have been making their own diya lamps, using natural resources to make diyas, reading stories and trying special Diwali sweets!

Reception News – Autumn 2, Week 1

It has been a great week in Reception!

This week, children have been learning about 1 more and 1 less as key concepts in Mathematics. We have been using physical objects on five frames to show what 1 more or 1 less than a number to 5 is.

For our Reception project, children have been thinking carefully about the power of music on our emotions. Learners have been talking about and experiencing different genres of music and communicating how it makes them feel. Children have also been learning how to represent music in abstract ways such as drawing how music changes.

Reception News- Autumn 1, Week 7

It has been a great week in Reception!

Next week in our Mathematics sessions, children will be be focussing on developing a deep understanding of representing the numbers 1,2 and 3. During our Reception project time, learners will be continuing to think about how the weather and seasons change and effect the world around us.

Reception Autumn 1, Week 5

It has been another busy week in Reception. During our Reception project, we have been thinking all about different human features around our environment. Children went on a walk around the school to look for different features. Together, children and educators discussed which were human features and why. Children then represented the different human features that they noticed through wooden blocks, watercolour pencils, drawing and painting.

Reception News- Autumn 1, Week 4

It has been another busy week in Reception class. Children have been thinking about which communities they belong to. Learners spent time looking at their own families and then learnt that they belonged to a school community, too. Children noticed their school logo’s, walked around school to see all of the different people who help us in school and drew attention to the different spaces and places.

Reception have had an amazing week in school! We have been thinking all about community and belonging, talking together about where we feel safe and what clubs and community places we visit.

Our focus story will be ‘Don’t Touch my Hair’ by Sharee Miller. This story links to our focus work around ourselves, our communities, respecting each other’s differences and how we follow our Golden Rules in order to keep each other safe. This is also good in preparation for the whole school focus of Black History Week (WB 3.10).

On Friday 29th September, EYFS will be hosting ‘Books with Breakfast’ where the grown ups are invited into the setting before school to share stories and breakfast with their children. If you would like to attend, please ensure you return the slip to your child’s teacher.

Parent Lunches

Next week, we will have our Reception parent lunch experience! Mrs Riley’s class lunch is 11.45-12.15pm and Mrs Archers class lunch is 12.15- 12.45pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

Reception News Autumn 1 Week 1

Welcome to your first Reception News post of the year!

This week, Reception children have made the educators so proud with how amazingly they have settled into their new school environment. The first week in school can be a rollercoaster of emotions for children and parents alike but, we have been bowled over by how fantastic each and every child has been this week!

Children have been getting to know the rules and routines at Woodlands and staff have all thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each child as an individual during their first few days. Children have had circle times and discussed our schools golden rules, practised using knives and forks at lunch time and enjoyed exploring the different spaces and resources on offer during project learning time.

 

A big thank you to all parents for your continued support this week, if you have any questions or queries about anything then please feel free to see a teacher face to face during drop off or pick up time. Or, you are welcome to message a member of staff using our Dojo platform.

Key Dates coming up…

On Thursday 21st September, there will be an Early Years phonics parent information session at 3.30pm in the EYFS classrooms. We highly recommend that parents attend this as it will help give you a good understanding of how phonics and early reading are taught in EYFS. We look forward to seeing you there!

There will soon be a week of Parent and Child lunch experiences during the week beginning 25th September. We will send further information out next week regarding this.

 

Reception News, Summer 1 Week 2

It’s been another fantastic week!

During their Reception project, children have been learning all about the life cycles of different animals. Learners have been studying some real caterpillars, made predictions about how they think they might change and looked in detail at the life cycles of other animals that they may find in summer time.

Reception News Summer 2, Week 1

What an amazing first week the children have had back in school!

During our Reception project learning time, children have been thinking about how the weather and seasons effect the environment around us. Children visited the forest school space to see what signs of summer they could spot and then make observational drawings with written labels.

Children also began to think about different plants and animals that we see more during summer time. Reception classes were both very excited to find evidence of caterpillars on the leaves in the garden area!

Next week, children will be focussing on caterpillars in more detail as we observe the life cycle of a caterpillar.

Next weeks key text is the classic ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle
