June in Year 2

We have been extremely busy again in Year two this month.

During our literacy lessons we have continued to study Australia in depth. We have been busy writing non-chronological reports about Australia. We covered information about animals, landmarks, climate and the fascinating Aboriginal people.

In our maths lessons we have been busy learning about statistics and handling data. We even did a little investigation into the colours of the skittles in a packet. We used the laptops and the program 2Simple, 2Chart to present the information we found. It was really interesting because Mrs Jones’ class found that purple was the most common skittle colour in their packet. Mrs Shedden’s class found that green was the most common in their pack. How amazing is that?

In science we have been learning lots of new facts about plants. You’ll be able to see if we’ve learnt enough about ‘what plants to help them live’ by looking outside our doors. There you will see some plants we used as part of our first plants lesson which we have planted into a trough and are now caring for. Keep an eye on them whenever you pass to check if we are doing a good job.

In art lessons we have been learning about colours, colour mixing and making several tones of the same primary colour.

In our music lessons with Mrs Straw we have been very busy composing our own music and learning how to play musical instruments following directions.

The highlight of the month of June has got to be ‘Sports Day’ when we had lots of fun taking part in activities and races. We all got to show off our skills at throwing, jumping, dribbling and kicking. It was a fantastic if very tiring day.
