The Great Get Together Assembly

Posted on June 16, 2017 by Mrs Crilly

Jo Cox GGTToday all children from year 1 to year 6 took part in a whole school massage story, The Smiling Flowers, as part of The Great Get Together, in memory of Jo Cox, the MP killed exactly one year ago today.

Jo was a member of parliament, she lived and worked in Yorkshire and campaigned to get people of different communities, religions and beliefs to live and work alongside one another in faith and harmony.

Jo’s family have helped to organise The Great Get Together – set to take place today and over this weekend. A number of different charities have joined  together to encourage community cohesion and celebrate diversity through a range of joint activities and fun events. As our school is part of the Massage in Schools Association (MISA); we used today’s assembly time so children could show that they care for each other and are part of their community; their class, year group and school as well as the wider community in which they live and help celebrate what we all have in common – the need to give and receive nurturing touch.
