The children have made a really good start to their last year at Woodlands!

In Literacy, we began the year with a focus on ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers. This text was chosen across school to help everyone with their thoughts and feelings about returning to school. We considered: a favourite place; a special person; any positive impacts of lockdown on the world; similarities and differences between human beings and much more. Throughout our discussions, we continuously referred to how we were feeling – be them positive or negative feelings.

We have now begun our work on ‘Land of the Free’, where we are discovering all things American. As part of this topic, we will be learning about America, including landmarks, states, Native Americans, extreme weather, significant events in American history and lots more. The children have compiled a list of questions that they wish to discover the answers to. At the moment, we are discovering what it was like to be a Pilgrim on board the Mayflower in 1620.

In Numeracy, we have been improving our knowledge of place value up to 10,000,000 (ten million). We have: written numbers in numerals and words; ordered and compared numbers, considered the value of digits and rounded numbers. In the next few weeks, we will be recapping our knowledge of the four operations including learning long division for those that are ready!

As well as this, we have been improving our rugby skills in PE, finding out about living things in Science and learning a new language – Spanish.

We look forward to keeping you updated with photos and our news!
