Year 3’s October Update

In Literacy the children have explored features of a diary entry and have began to write a diary entry in the role of an archaeologist excavating Oswestry Hill Fort for the first time! The children have got to remember to write in the past tense and use first person pronouns. As part of their work into the Stone Age the children are looking forward to visiting Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre to make their research ‘come to life’.

In Mathematics, the children are currently learning their 3x, 4x and 8x tables. We have looked at different methods to solve them, such as written arrays and repeated addition. The children will need to continue to practise these at home to develop their fluency.

As part of our RE work, we have been finding out about Diwali and how this is celebrated by the Sikhs each year. The children also shared some of the festivals that they celebrate such as Christmas, Easter and Halloween.

It was our final swimming lesson this week and the children have thoroughly enjoyed swimming. From next week we will be doing indoor PE on a Tuesday (Mrs Thompson’s class) and a Wednesday (Mrs Shedden’s class). Both classes will continue with outdoor PE on a Thursday.
